I discovered cyanotypes during my PhD while researching semiconductor materials. One late-night lab session led me to John Herschel’s work on cyanotypes and alternative photographic processes—and I was instantly intrigued.
What started as a curiosity quickly became a creative escape. Experimenting with cyanotypes allowed me to step away from the rigors of academia while still engaging my scientific mind. I was drawn to the way this process blends chemistry with art, turning methodical experimentation into something beautifully unpredictable.
By the time I completed my PhD, Three by Four Studio had taken shape, bringing with it new ideas and directions. Over the past two years, I’ve been refining my techniques, building this site, and balancing multiple jobs—an experience that often reminds me of my research days. Cyanotypes remain both a mindful practice and a connection to my past, which is why you’ll find science-inspired pieces woven into my work.
And the name Three by Four? Well, the clue is in the gram 😉.
